Education and Care for Adolescents and Adults with Autism
A Guide for Professionals and Carers
'[This] is the first book I have read which covers both education and care. There is some very useful information, some of which is very thought provoking….The book promotes the importance of everyone working together to achieve a better understanding' - National Autistic Society
By providing case studies and examples that show the reader how to put theory into practice in multi-disciplinary settings, this book clearly explains how changes in policy and provision have affected the ways in which young people and adults with autism are cared for and educated.
This book offers up-to-date, accessible information on:
o the nature and effects of Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASDs)
o family issues surrounding caring for and educating those with ASDs
o possible intervention programmes
o how to support the family
Based on years of experience gained in education and care settings, this book offers strategies for all those working with adolescents and adults who are on the autistic spectrum.
Good guide and reference text to support practitioners working with adults with autism- excellent for PCET students
This book is GREAT! I have so many tabs in this book that it looks like a hedgehog, if you want your students to have a well rounded introduction into issues surrounding ASD, this is it!
This book is essential reading for anybody coming into contact with those with autism.
The author gives clear guidance on what to look for and how to deal whith what one finds. The book desperately needs updating though.
An excellent book, with a insightful perspective on ASD.
Clear guidance is given for any professional working with people who are on the Autistic Spectrum.
Easy to read and to understand.
A well-written and thought-provoking book. On page 1 Wall acknowledges that the information in this book “barely touches the surface” and she provides opportunities for further reading at the end of each chapter. This book is very useful to provide an easily accessible, up-to-date and vital overview of current practice and support both in school and in care settings.
I have recommended this book because the discussion explains what the ASD condition means to parents /carers. It gives insight into the way in which treatment/interventions can be approached. It's really well written
this book had easy to follow chapters and practical advise which the students would take on board - as this subject area is a topic we cover as part of a module we would not expect them to buy this as compulsory but those going to work in this field would find this helpful to understand how the workplace really is
a good source of information. very useful for the learners wishing to go into supporting adults and children with autism
clear, concise, well thought out. Intervention programmes section needs to be more in depth and wider in scope
