'This is a very exciting book and should be read widely by anyone who wants a better understanding of the role of assessment in the diverse, globalised, digital societies of the 21st century. Adopting a sociocultural perspective, it moves on from obsessions with measurement, to examine much deeper issues about quality, human judgement, ethics, and negotiated agreement'
- Professor Mary James, Univeristy of Cambridge Faculty of Education, President, British Educational Research Association

This book provided sound rationale on why things are what they are, however, I was hoping for more guidance on how to change things.

Mr Paul Smith
School of Nursing & Midwifery, Dundee University

Interesting to me as a tutor with an interest in assessment. too complex and theoretical for my students in the context of this course. Better suited for masters level study of assessment rather than developing understanding of trainee teachers.

Dr Sarah Askey
Education Deanery, Liverpool Hope University

Good reading resources for post reg students.

Mrs Petra Chipperfield

Slightly too challenging for undergraduate students

Miss Caroline Lewis
Swansea School of Education, Swansea Metro Univ.

Recommended for people doing MA or PhD research in the topic of assessment. The level of research is beyond the scope of Initial teacher Training course for which I evaluated it. But it makes a good case for the need for formative assessment and shows how hallow the exam-based systems have become.

Mrs Suzanne Savage
FCPS, Kidderminster College

Unfortunately, whilst there was a good deal of information in this book it was not specific enough for our needs.
