An Introduction to Research in Counselling and Psychotherapy
- John McLeod - University of Oslo, Norway
Structured around common training topics, the book:
- Explains why you need to do research at all: what it is, why it's important and its historical and philosophical context
- Guides you through the confusing mass of research literature
- Covers the ins and outs of actually doing research: practical and ethical issues
- Helps you get the most out of research - how to evaluate the outcomes and use research to investigate the process of therapy.
Written in a language familiar to first-year trainees and using a range of features to enhance learning, this accessible introduction will equip both trainees and qualified therapists with the essential nuts and bolts to understand research.
John McLeod is Emeritus Professor of Counselling at the University of Abertay Dundee and adjunct Professor at the University of Oslo, Norway.
Maybe a little advanced for level 3
An extremely useful text which helps to familiarise students with counselling research and the relevance and importance of research to the field of counselling and psychotherapy
Excellent, solid foundation for MA students.
Goes in much deeper detail than needed for postgraduate students who are educators
Such a useful and accessible text for students, well worth adopting
I used this text not on the Research Methods in Counselling module as planned but on our 'bridging' module for students with Level 5 counselling wanting to complete a Top-Up degree. These students have no previous knowledge of research and so it as a very useful introduction, particularly as it applies standard resarch methods to counselling practice.
Good book for beginners to research in counselling and psychotherapy. Good basic approach, recommended to first years as an introduction to methods
A first class text ideal for counselling students who are novice researchers
An excellent book for year two Diploma students. Easy to read, follows evidence based assessment model of training. Highly recommend!
This well constructed book is as thought provoking as it is well written. The author covers all aspects of research thoroughly, providing the reader with an excellent introduction to this often difficult field.
