Mental Illness and Crime
- Robert A. Schug - California State University, Long Beach, USA
- Henry F. Fradella - Arizona State University, USA
An interdisciplinary, integrative approach toward mental illness–related criminal and violent behaviors
very clear, well set out and presented.
A book that can be used across disciplines to support students in their wider understanding
This is a very good book which covers a wide range of mental health conditions and their links to offended behaviour. There is very good use of case studies to set the scene, good tables at end of sections reporting the crimes and profiles/symptoms demonstrated of offenders. This is also detailed and well structured and very useful for undergraduates
This book provides a useful summary of some of the key issues involved in the complex relationship between mental illness and crime.
Very interesting read that clearly shows the links between the two topics on my course, mental illness and criminology
A useful text looking at ideas of mental ill health with criminality. Good links with specific diagnoses and critiques of treatements. Probably more from a medical point of view, but useful to social workers
The book Mental Illness and Crime is a definitive resource – not only for students in the field of criminology, psychology and forensic sciences, but also for general readers and mental health professionals.

Schug and Fradella have certainly succeeded in creating a comprehensive overview that combines the clinical viewpoint with the theoretical
I will not adopt this book for my course “Forensic Psychology” only because this book does not cover much of the material I am covering in my course. Nevertheless, as a lecturer I will definitely use it to expand my own knowledge of the field.
An excellent book that examines the relationship between mental illness and criminal behaviour with detailed case studies
Good as background reading
excellent book that identifies many aspects of mental health with detailed case studies.
