Mark Prever, trainer, writer and supervisor
"The needs and problems of young people are currently extremely topical and justify a dedicated textbook. The wide range of internationally renowned authors contributes to the strengths and diversity of this publication, enhancing its potential as a resource for students and professionals."
Jenny Pinfield, University of Worcester
This book responds to the urgent need for practical intervention approaches targeting young people at risk. It provides a much needed practical resource for practitioners and students from a variety of helping professions.
Focussing on interventions that practitioners can use in collaboration with the young person, the book offers hands-on strategies for addressing challenges and issues typically face by young people, such as:
- Depression, suicide and self-harm
- Substance Misuse
- Problematic Sexual Behaviour
- Marginalised Youth
- Mental Health Issues.
Throughout the book, multi-disciplinary and international authors share their expertise, highlighting relevant evidence-based interventions and considering themes such as anti-oppressive practice, culture, values and ethics.
It will prove invaluable reading for students and practitioners working with young people, especially in the fields of youth work, social work, psychology, counselling, and education.
An essential book if working with children at risk
Covers a broad range of issues of risk. Much more detail needed for my course.
An excellent read. The students will appreciate the simplicty of this book and the practical application of risk management to young people. This is an essential read for my upcoming module; Risk, Resilience and Resitance and will hopefully give those studying the module, the opportunity to widen their knowledge and skills by reading and applying the concepts in this text.
A fantastic and easy read, perfect for my PRU work and for my L3 Youth work students. Has loads of different examples of risky behavioir and how we can help working eith young people.
Really easy reading
This is a really accessible book that covers a broad range of risk-taking behaviour that could be undertaken by young people. In our module, most of the subjects explored in the book are covered. The information and questions in particular are engaging and ideal for level 5 learning. I will be using this book with my students.
This is one of the most influential text books this year on working with young people.
This has been an advised reading text for a while and students in residential community and YOT settings have found it very helpful. It covers a lot of diffcult issues ( which are often ongoing for children into adulthood) in a sensitive and informed way.
A useful tool for professionals working with young people
Have advised students to add this text to their Chrismas lists.
This book has practical thought out strategies to promote a better understanding of practices relevant to young people at risk . This is an area tiuched on in some detail within the syllabus of Early Years and is informative and clear in its approach.
