Probation Journal
Very good on issues of race and criminal justice system.
This is a very useful book that adds to our knowledge of this important topic. I particularly liked the chapter by David Smith entitled Criminology, Contemporary Society and Race Issues, which engages with policing and young black males. This is an area of concern for academics and students in my classes and it is well written, balanced and objective.
A well written book for anyone interested in Criminology who requires a comprehensive overview of ethnic minorities and the Criminal Justice system.
Never has it been more important to recognise the respective roles of race and ethnicity in contributing to the cultural and symbolic significance of the criminal justice system, and of policing in particular. In one book students can quickly and accessibly engage with these issues, where core conceptual and theoretical ideas sit alongside practical examples of how agents of criminal justice are responding to, and working through, the challenges of serving the publics of ethnically diverse and racially plural contemporary Britain.
