Science for Primary and Early Years
Developing Subject Knowledge
- Jane Devereux - The Open University
This text is part of the series Developing Subject Knowledge which covers English, Mathematics and Science and provides authoritative distance learning materials on the national requirements for teaching the primary core curriculum, working with the early years and achieving qualified teacher status. It is designed for initial teacher training, experienced practitioner self-study, and will help towards GCSE revision.
This is a set book for the Open University Course, 'Ways of Knowing: language, mathematics and science in the early years'.
This book is quite simply one of the best on the market for helping non-specialist trainee teachers develop their content knowledge for teaching science successfully in the primary school.
This will be added to the reading list for our trainees as an extra source of information for subject knowledge enhancement - thank you
This book will provide helpful additional materials for our Early Years and Primary students.
The chapters were separating into easily understandable subheadings that the trainee's could access quickly without having to read the whole chapter. A useful asset to have whilst on their school placement. The suggested activities generated opportunities for the trainee's to develop their students critical thinking and address concepts never discussed in that way before. Subject knowledge was supported by commentary which enabled trainee's to reflect upon their own learning as well as their students.
Clear, concise and detailed. A very useful text for practitioners to support their own CPD. Helps to develop understanding of science and the confidence to engage children with the subject
