SAGE Publishing launches Big Ideas in Social Science, following success of Social Science Bites Podcast Series

January 20, 2016

London, UK. SAGE Publishing one of the world’s leading independent and academic publishers for the social sciences has today published Big Ideas in Social Science, a collection of revised interviews from its widely acclaimed Social Science Bites podcast as produced by Nigel Warburton and David Edmonds (www.philosophybites.com).

Featuring interviews from Craig Calhoun, Director of LSE, Nobel Prize winning economist Robert J Shiller of Yale University, philosopher Rom Harré along with other world leading social scientists, Big Ideas in Social Science is a collection of thought-provoking discussions questioning the nature and relevance of the social sciences across its various fields of enquiry including sociology, politics, economics, criminology and geography.

Speaking of the launch SAGE’s Executive Publishing Director Ziyad Marar commented:

“The social sciences have been a core part of our work and central to our identity as a publisher since 1965. Working with the global academic community, our key goal is to support scholars in the publication of their research, and to help facilitate discussion on key debates and policy changes. The Social Science Bites podcasts, launched with Nigel and Dave in 2012, have been a key part of this. With this collection, we are delighted to bring to the fore 18 of those interviews, further engaging the reading public with some of the key social science questions of our time.”

Dave Edmonds and Nigel Warburton added:

“We have worked with SAGE for many years, launching with them the Social Science Bites podcast series.  It’s been an absolute pleasure to collaborate with SAGE and a privilege to meet so many leading thinkers in the social sciences.  With this book we are delighted to be able to work with SAGE to bring some of the ideas we’ve discussed with our interviewees to the reading public.”
