Teaching Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
- Sarah Martin-Denham - University of Sunderland, UK
All teachers are expected to have a clear understanding of the needs of all pupils and be able to use and evaluate distinctive teaching approaches to engage and support their entire class. But how do you actually teach and work with young people in an inclusive way?
This book is your ultimate guide with chapters on:
- Your first day in a specialist provision
- Teaching, Planning and Assessment
- Working in partnership
As well as material on specific conditions which covers all areas of exceptionality.
This book gives you the knowledge and practical advice you really need to help you teach children from 0-25 with special educational needs and disabilities.
Clear links to the new code of practice. Excellent teaching strategies explored. Easy to find specific needs and how to cater for these.
Excellent text that offers practical solutions with respect to some complex learning needs. Highly recommended for teachers in training and those interested in developing their practice in this area.
This edited text explores a wide range of SEND issues. Each chapter is written by experienced practitioners who provide the reader with an excellent list of resources at the end. I especially like the use of sections entitled 'Key Points to Remember' and 'Reflective Activity'. This is a useful resource for teachers in training and qualified teachers alike. It could form the basis of a whole school CPD day or be used in ITE and postgraduate SEND courses to promote discussion during lectures and seminars.
The book content fits well with the concept and content of our Specialist Teacher Module
Some very important new perspectives on gthe subject of special educational needs based on social model approach
Particularly liked the reflective activities throughout this book. Key questions to consider were also very helpful additions
So useful - full of useful information to help with teaching children with SEN and disabilities.
Clear layout structure, easy to read and concise logical sections easy to use and locate specific learning needs, support strategies and assessments. Case studies and related consideration tasks are clear and generate opportunity to relate potential provision to a specific learning
An excellent learning tool whihc encorporates active learning and application to practice.
This book is clearly set out and very easily accessible. It is a comprehensive reference with case studies that are relevant and reflective activities that provide plenty of opportunities for discussion. The ‘key ideas explored in this chapter’ at the start are very useful too. The book covers a breadth of SEND issues written by SEN practitioners with a wealth of experience.
